How our custom story puzzles are made

Step 1: your photos and your story

Everything starts with the photos you upload and a few questions about who and what should be in the picture. You can add people, pets, places and small details. You can also tell us the mood you want, from cozy to adventurous.

Please upload only photos you have permission to use. If a photo includes a child, it should be uploaded by an adult with permission. We do not create designs of fictional characters, brands or celebrities.

Step 2: AI illustration

Next, an AI image model creates four illustrated designs from your photos and notes. The goal is that the people and pets are recognizable and the scene reflects the details you described. This takes seconds, and it is free.

The designs are stored privately on our servers while you decide. They are not shared, and your photos are not used to train AI models. Designs you do not use are deleted after 7 days.

Step 3: you choose, we prepare for print

You pick the design you like best and choose a size: 252, 500 or 1000 pieces. Once a design is chosen, it is prepared for print. The image is prepared at the resolution the puzzle size needs and fitted to the puzzle's proportions.

Preparing the file for print is a separate step from creating the illustration, because print needs a precise size and a high resolution that a quick preview does not.

Step 4: printed and cut

The artwork is printed onto premium chipboard, 1.5 mm with a semi-gloss finish. The board is then cut into interlocking pieces to match the size you picked. Each puzzle is made for the order rather than pulled from stock, because every picture is unique.

If something goes wrong in production, such as a misprint, damaged board or missing pieces, we reprint it for free. Our refund and reprint policy explains how to ask.

Step 5: shipping

Your finished puzzle is packed and shipped to your address in the US. Free shipping inside the US. You receive an email from us when your order is on its way.

Why we show you the artwork first

Printing a custom puzzle is a one-off job, so we want you to be sure about the picture before anything is made. That is why creating designs is free and why you choose a design yourself. The picture you approve is the picture that gets prepared for print.

Seeing the design first also lets you decide whether the likeness feels right, whether the scene tells your story and which of the four options you prefer. If none of them suits you, you can simply leave, and the unused designs are deleted after 7 days.

Quality checks and support

Our aim is that the picture is clear, well placed and the right size for the puzzle you chose. Because the artwork is created for you, you can see exactly what will be printed before you pay.

If you see a problem when your puzzle arrives, tell us. Send a photo to hello@ourstorypuzzle.com and we respond within 48 hours. Damaged, misprinted or miscut puzzles, and puzzles with missing pieces, are reprinted for free.

What happens to your files

Your designs are private – we never share them, and unused designs are deleted after 7 days. Files for an order are deleted 30 days after delivery. If you reserve a design, we keep it until you pay or for 45 days, whichever comes first. The full details are in our privacy policy.

We rely on a small number of service providers to run the store, such as payment and email services. The privacy policy names them and explains what each one does.
